Living On or Off Campus
It can be difficult to decide whether or not to live on campus. If you live on campus, then you are charged a flat rate for the whole semester, which is good because you don't have to worry about rent going up or the bills changing. Plus, living on campus, you don't pay for gas, water, electricity, or heat. But if you decide to live off campus, always get a roommate, they may be a pain in your butt, but you can get a larger apartment for a small rent fee because you are splitting it with a roommate. So if its a $1000 for rent and another $250 for utilities, you as an individual are only paying $625 total for rent, which is a steal. The only downside to living off campus is you have to provide your own furniture. That can get costly but usually just a one time fee. You also might want to consider your surroundings when making this decision. If you go to school in Detroit, it might be a better idea if you go live on campus or commute from your parents' house. But if you go to school in East Lansing, you can live off campus no problem but you need to think about getting a car because you may find a good priced apartment far away. See Cars tab for advice.
